Brewing Update 10/7/05 Here's an Excel spreadsheet where I've recorded some of the recipes and outcomes of my different brews. I enjoy crafting the occassional homebrew. I did it a lot when I was in college but just did my first batch in about a year and a half yesterday (10/06/2004). It's a Whale Arrow IPA or something like that. This was not a scientific brew (I did not take a specific gravity reading, keep records of my temperatures, take down exact amounts of material, etc). I just used it to get familiar with the process again. I'm currently considering starting to mash as well (that's making beer from scratch; currently I do the malt extract method). Here's some equipment: King Kooker crawfish propane burner with heating wort. Wort cooler setup. I put the smaller coil in an ice bath and the large one goes in the wort (obviously). This way the tap water is extra cool before going into the coil in the wort. It will get the wort down to a pitchable temp (78 degrees from about 150) in about 15 minutes. This is the wort cooler in action. |
