Lincoln Thunderbolt Shitty stick welder. I won't say where I "obtained" this but it has come in handy. It's the classic Lincoln Thunderbolt which go for about $100 on eBay. It's an impressive 225 amps (unfortunately AC not DC). It's really good at heating the metal up quick, but gets poor penetration. It also makes messy welds (I swear its the welder, not the one who is welding). I used it to do most of the repair on my Jeep frame which is kind of a scary thought. I keep telling myself I'll get a nice 250 amp MIG welder some day and grind those welds out...I (over)built a little wooden cart for it to sit on. The welder is heavy and awkwardly balanced (think massive transformer) so this was the best way to get it around. I've recently kluged a 240V jack for this guy in the garage but it burns the fuses out fast. However it's good enough for small jobs. I built this 50ft "extension cord" so I could use power from the basement and get it 50ft away in the street. The flexible 3-wire (6 gauge I think) wire came from some electrical supply place in Hartford. I think the ends came from HD. It cost about $70. |
