1962 Sunbeam Alpine Series II. Rebuilt from a rotting shell with Ford "power". At the moment I only have pics of what it was before we started. A friend picked it up for a few hundred dollars in Woodstock, NY. I was to be the mechanic and he was to be the financier. This was my junior year of college. We ended up doing a good job repairing all the rust and painted the whole think in POR-15 after sandblasting. We then shoehorned in a Ford V6 from an 80s Bronco donor and tied that to a Worldclass T5. The gearing on the tranny unfortunately was not really applicable to the V6, but it worked. I believe the kit to do this came from some guy in Texas named Rodriguez or Gonzalez. It came with the motor mounts, tranny mount, and headers. I think it cost about $700. I still have the original motor in basement in a thousand parts. Let me know if you want it. Here are pics of the rusty pile we started with (sorry for the poor quality but they were taken with a first generation cheapo digital camera): Here you can see the interior (I think the radiator is in the driver seat and the oil pan from the originial 4 cylinder in the passenger seat). Ooo, rusty parts in a box. Fenderwell and rocker rust. I remember fixing this rust hole. I was drilling holes to rivet a cover plate in place before Bondo-ing and I had my hand behind the fender to get a good grip to apply pressure with the drill. The drill popped through the rust and I drilled right into the knuckle of of my index finger on my left hand. First clear liquid started to come out and then the blood. I almost passed out and then couldn't use the finger for about 2 weeks. Lesson learned: Only let licensed doctors drill into your bones. Your body cannot be worked on like a car. |
